Dr Sarah Meachem

Applied Science Biology PhD

Dr Sarah Meachem completed her VCE in 1987 at Frankston High School before studying Applied Science in Biology at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1990. She conferred her Doctorate of Philosophy at Monash University in 1999 where she studied the hormone control of testis function.

Sarah now runs her own laboratory at the Hudson Institute for Medical Research as a testis biologist and engages in numerous leadership and advocacy roles in the broader health sector in Australia including: Associate Director of the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (NSW), Senior Leader at the National Health and Medical Research Council Australia (Canberra) and Director and President of the Australian Society for Medical Research 2004-2016.

Sarah has been the recipient of the Victorian Tall Poppy Awards for Research and Communication Excellence and was awarded the Australian Leadership Award for her vision for the nations health sector.

Luke Hunter

Musical Director

After graduating from Frankston High School in 1994, Luke began his career onstage, appearing as Schlomo Metzenbaum in Fame the Musical, both in Australia and overseas, and in the casts of the original Australian productions of Shout! and Oh! What a Night.

Since then Luke was the Musical Director for the Australian production of Jersey Boys, receiving both the Helpmann and Green Room Awards for Best Musical Direction. He also co-arranged the Australian Anthem for the boys to perform at the AFL Grand Final.

Most recently, Luke was Musical Director for Dedications starring John O’Hara at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Musical Director for the Australian tour and Singapore seasons of Grease, for Musical Director of New Theatricals’ The Addams Family and Assistant Musical Director for TML Enterprises’ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Other Musical Direction credits include The Rocky Horror Show, Shout!, Oh! What a Night, Leader of the Pack (Green Room Award for best musical direction), Falsettos, Eddie Perfect’s Up and Take Your Skin Off and Dance, Floorplay in Atlantic City and Burn the Floor in Las Vegas.

Luke is also a composer, arranger, and the co-creator of the iPhone App Warm Me Up! which provides vocal warm-ups to singers worldwide.

Dave Rabey

Diploma of Business Management

Dave graduated Frankston High School and started his career in hospitality.

Gaining accolades both at home and overseas, Dave now works with at risk and homeless youth at STREAT in Melbourne’s CBD.

This café provides seven-week courses where the youth learn hospitality, communication and life skills.

Mira Lutfi

Arts/Law Graduate

Mira graduated from Frankston High School in 2004 before going on to study Arts/Law at Monash University.

She commenced her legal career with Minter Ellison Lawyers, specialising in Competition and Consumer law, using skills developed in the corporate space.

Mira enjoys providing pro bono legal advice to socially disadvantaged groups and hopes to build on this practice in the future.

Michael McClure

Real Estate Agent

After graduating from Frankston High School in 2007, Michael started a carpentry apprenticeship, specialising in home renovations and house frames. Michael broke his back in a workplace accident late in 2010 which forced him to change careers. He moved into the real estate sector.

Michael looks back on this challenging time as a blessing in disguise, as it allowed him to move forward in a career path that he has a true passion for.

Michael now runs his own multi-award winning Real Estate business within the Eview Group, where he is recognised as one of Eview’s top performing sales agents.

Alanna Deutrom

Diploma in Event Management

At only 24 Alanna has a string of achievements to her name. She is the co-founder of Coach Music Academy, is a professional vocal coach, singer, songwriter, event manager and keynote speaker.

Before discovering her passion as a mentor for youth through music Alanna was titled Young Person Of The Year by Girlfriend Magazine at 14, was signed to a music production company in the UK at 16, released her first EP at 19, toured the US, UK and Australia singing, and amongst the craziness she graduated with a Diploma in Event Management in Melbourne.

Since then she has started her own events company “The Coach Couch” interviewing Australian’s who have achieved amazing things including the legendary Molly Meldrum. Alanna also is the co-founder of “SING IT OUT” which is a State wide initiative supporting youth through music. Her mission is to inspire, encourage and equip youth with the tools they need to improve their mental health.

Joshua Wells

Bachelor of Arts

Joshua graduated from Frankston High School in 2011. After completing a Bachelors Degree in 2015 Joshua chose to defer a Master of Education to pursue music. Throughout those busy years Joshua has worked within the music industry, playing around Australia and touring internationally in various musical projects along with working in artist management, artists & repertoire, events and instrumental tuition.

In 2015 Joshua devised a charity program raising funds for Arts Access Victoria, an Australian initiative which helps provide access to arts and cultural activities for those who are disadvantaged.

Joshua hopes to build on this practice in the future.

Jason Page

Pilot

Jason was a student at Frankston High School from 2007 to 2012. Whilst at Frankston High School, Jason studied Aviation in Years 9 and 10.

Jason started flying lessons soon after his first flight with Frankston High School.

Jason now holds a commercial pilot license and he is a flight instructor at Peninsula Aero Club.

Former Students and Staff Association

The Frankston High School Former Students and Staff Association was formed in 1995 and now has over 4000 members. A number of functions are held each year and committee members who meet in Terms 1, 2 and 4 assist former students in organising reunions including the annual winter reunion held in Queensland.

The Association publishes a magazine three times a year called ‘Optima Semper’, which is sent to alumni all over the world. The April issue of Optima Semper is sent free of charge to those who are registered on the mailing list. This issue includes information about upcoming events and meetings of the Former Students and Staff Association and also a membership form should you wish to receive the August and December issues. August and December issues are posted to members for an annual fee of $15.00.
